While sightseeing the city sou can see many famous even abroad monuments od Lipsk.

Railway station in Lipsk which was become a special centre after rebuilding, where toy can make shopping and have a wonderful time, is one of few railway station in Germany made in ”Kopfbahnhof” style.

 

Worth seeing is also an old renaissance city hall built in 1556/57 by Hieronim Lotter. In 1905 the town council decided to rebuild it compeletely, which ended in 1909. The old town hall, destite the modernization, was to small for Lipsk’s clerks, a new town hall was built on the „Plei-enburg” Castle’s fundaments, where the town’s office is till today.

There is a baroque, beautifully decorated old trade market behind the old town hall, where merchants used to sign their agrees. Nowadays many ceremonies take place here, because of the building’s wonderful acoustics.

There is also a Mädlera Passage near the old trade market, famous of Auerbach Cellar.

According to Goethe, doctor Faust used to party here with his students and making rides on the barrel (Fassritt).

There is a former High Court building downtown.

After using buildings as a museum it became again a building of a court. Nowadays a Constitution Tribunal is located here.

You can easily see the “City” skyscraper.

over the city. In the 70 it was buit as an university building. That’s why it is called "a tooth of wisdom".


August Place:

August Place is decorated by the end of 19th century by Mendebrunnen Fountain. There are new, opened in 1981, draper’s hall opposite- a seat of the famous orchestra, known as Gewandhausorchester. An opera building – opened in 1961, is located in the north side of the place.

The Battle Of Nations Monument

The monument, dedicated to the peace, was built in 1913 because of the centenary of the Battle Of Nations that take place near Lipsk. Whoever passes stairs in its inside will see wonderful views on Lipsk ang neighbourhood.

ZOO

ZOO has been established by the end of 19th century by Ernsta Pinkert and regularly, according to a modern knowlegde, rebuilded. It is famous from breeding animals, which are about to extinct.
